Purpose-built for the bird. Engineered for intelligence.
Today’s poultry housing was never designed for today’s technology. THUNDERBIRD was. A square structure, built from the ground up around the Five Freedoms of poultry and the computing power required to deliver them in real time.
The problem with conventional housing
Existing poultry houses are an extension of conventional thinking. They evolved as a collection of separate processes, a fan here, a timer there, a drinker line running on assumption, rather than as a unified operating environment. Limited integration. Limited automation. No purposeful design criteria connecting one system to the next.
More importantly, conventional housing cannot consistently or openly support the five freedoms of poultry. Stating five foundational freedoms is easy. Proving them is the hard part, and today most operations have no accurate means of quantifying or qualifying any of them. Litter, water, and air quality are governed by antiquated controls, mechanical timers, and word of mouth.
Anyone who has played the post office game as a child knows what happens to information as it passes from person to person: it arrives incomplete, or it arrives changed. That communication flaw is the reason JUNO exists.
We see it differently
The poultry house of the future must be designed around the essential needs of the bird:
- Access to proper nutrition — constant access to fresh water and a balanced diet
- Appropriate environment — suitable shelter and comfortable resting areas
- Health management — preventing, diagnosing, and treating pain, injury, or disease
- Behavioral freedom — space, proper facilities, and social interaction
- Mental well-being — avoiding conditions that cause fear and disturbance
That belief drives four integrated systems: THUNDERBIRD, JUNO, HYDRA, and SENTINEL.

JUNO: intelligence at the center
JUNO is our edge-computing and environmental intelligence platform, powered by NVIDIA Jetson Orin and Cosmos compute technology and delivering up to 275 TOPS of on-site processing power. Web-connected, backed up, and built to operate directly at the farm.
JUNO does what AI was designed to do: process data fast and accurately, without outside influence and without loss of memory.
Using near-infrared imaging, proprietary line spectroscopic gas analytics, predictive weather inputs, and on-site environmental sensing, JUNO continuously analyzes off-gassing, flock conditions, air quality, bird activity, and operational performance. It identifies the best response based on bird health, welfare, and operational best practices – then recommends or executes that response in real time, logging every decision for future learning.
But intelligence needs a body. To let JUNO optimize the bird’s environment, we first had to build a structure capable of being optimized. That is why we designed the THUNDERBIRD poultry house: a building engineered to maximize bird freedom while simultaneously improving farmer and integrator profitability and consumer transparency.
Access to proper nutrition — HYDRA
Proper nutrition begins with clean, consistent water delivery and precise control over what enters the bird’s system.
HYDRA is our filtration and disinfection system. Using on-farm water analytics, HYDRA removes metals and harmful contaminants from groundwater, then moves water through our CA2 REACTOR, where calcium carbonate is converted into aragonite. This makes the calcium biologically available for bird uptake while preventing the buildup that clogs cool cells, drinkers, and related equipment.
HYDRA then applies ultraviolet disinfection, sterilizing bacteria and preventing propagation throughout the water system. Once treated, water is ready for distribution or for the precise injection of probiotics, medications, or other required additives.
That injection and blending process is fully automated and controlled by JUNO. A producer can direct JUNO to administer a product at a specific time, date, and rate, and the system executes it. Backflushing, filtration condition, water quality, dosing, and overall system performance are continuously monitored, logged, and available — without ongoing human intervention.
Appropriate environment — the THUNDERBIRD structure
An appropriate environment requires more than shelter. It requires a structure and an operating system designed together to create stable, comfortable, and responsive living conditions.
THUNDERBIRD was engineered so that JUNO can see, understand, monitor, and control the full poultry house environment. The house is exceptionally strong, designed for specific geographic conditions, fire-resistant, and highly energy efficient.
Fans, louvers, and mist cooling are all centrally controlled by JUNO. Fan motors and propellers were purpose-designed to perform under JUNO’s control — technologies originally developed for high-volume, intensive use in data centers, now delivering precision airflow management inside a poultry house. With infinitely variable speed control and highly efficient motor design, these systems monitor their own condition and alert JUNO to predictable failures before they occur, minimizing downtime and unexpected expense.
JUNO uses predictive weather data alongside interior conditions to open and close louvers, cycle fans, and adjust fan speed in real time. When additional cooling is required, JUNO activates the THUNDERBIRD external misting system by zone, according to actual cooling demand inside the house. All the while, JUNO logs bird activity against environmental air quality and adjusts accordingly – a responsive, self-improving system serving both bird comfort and operating efficiency.
Important Note: TOMIGUNN does not provide licensed architectural or engineering services, nor do we perform or supervise physical construction. All structural engineering, stamped drawings, fabrication, permitting, and on-site construction are handled exclusively by licensed professionals and qualified contractors, including our partner Quicken Steel. Customers are responsible for engaging appropriate licensed professionals as required by applicable laws and regulations.
Health management — SENTINEL
Health management depends on detecting, preventing, and responding to risk early – before stress or illness moves through the flock.
JUNO continuously monitors litter condition, moisture, carbon, pH, environmental conditions, gas patterns, bird temperatures, and flock activity. By combining real-time sensing with learned historical patterns, JUNO recognizes unfavorable trends, evaluates response options, and recommends or executes corrective action immediately.
Air quality and biosecurity are further strengthened by SENTINEL, our cold plasma reactive oxygen technology. SENTINEL disinfects indoor air and reduces atmospheric gases such as ammonia, adding an active layer of protection inside the house.
SENTINEL is controlled by JUNO. When JUNO detects elevated risk– wild bird overflight, for example – it can secure the house, close openings, and direct SENTINEL to disinfect incoming airflow while reducing ammonia buildup. JUNO can also deploy SENTINEL during heating cycles and brooding periods, when ammonia control is hardest, reducing ammonia-laden gases while preserving the environmental stability young birds need.
We have seen exceptional results with SENTINEL in layer houses, layer-house processing areas, coolers, transportation equipment, and hatcheries. In broiler environments with very high air exchange rates, SENTINEL is especially effective as a biosecurity tool during periods of elevated external challenge.
Mental well-being — biocentric lighting
Mental well-being is shaped by consistency, comfort, air quality, lighting, and the removal of stress-producing conditions.
Our biocentric lighting system is driven by JUNO and controlled at every fixture. JUNO manages intensity, color, and balance – each a critical element in bird development and daily comfort. Optimizing them lowers operating cost, extends lamp life, and enhances development while holding the living environment stable.
At the same time, JUNO records bird activity, condition, and temperature, learning from daily operating conditions and refining lighting strategy over time toward the best possible outcome.
Combined with precise environmental control, cleaner air, improved water quality, and reduced disruption, the result is a house designed not only for productivity, but for welfare at every level.
Behavioral freedom — an environment that adapts to the flock
Behavioral freedom depends on a house that responds intelligently to the flock, rather than forcing the flock to adapt to unmanaged conditions.
JUNO monitors bird activity, movement, condition, and environmental response in real time, then adjusts airflow, cooling, lighting, and conditions to better support natural flock behavior and movement patterns across the house.
That same intelligence extends into robotics. JUNO can command our robotics platform to autonomously follow the farmer during mortality collection and dispose of dead birds. It can direct the robot to spray vaccines or probiotics without human intervention – improving consistency, reducing labor burden, and lowering human risk inside the house.
By integrating environmental control, automation, and robotics into one coordinated platform, THUNDERBIRD creates an adaptive environment that supports the bird’s daily patterns and removes unnecessary disruption.
Why THUNDERBIRD exists
Traditional poultry houses were never intentionally designed to support integrated intelligence, automation, and autonomous systems. They were not built around the live needs of the bird. They evolved as a collection of separate processes rather than a unified, welfare-centered operating environment.
THUNDERBIRD was built differently.
It was designed around the Five Freedoms and created to support them through edge computing, environmental intelligence, clean water delivery, air treatment, automation, robotics, and continuous learning. Purpose-built for today’s and tomorrow’s technologies, THUNDERBIRD enables JUNO to fully see, understand, monitor, and control the modern poultry environment in a way that always points back to the health, welfare, and performance of the bird.
THUNDERBIRD was not built to house technology. It was built to put technology in the service of the bird.
